Learn to Play:

Our lesson program welcomes members and non-members interested in learning polo. At Mashomack, polo lessons are available for all levels, from beginner to professional. Our professional coaches meet you at your level and tailor your lessons to your needs and goals.

 

Adults

• Start with lessons

• Progress to "Instructional Chukkers" (practice matches with on-the-field coaching)

• Advance to Coaching League (Pro Am) Chukkers Saturdays and team play

Juniors

• Start with lessons

• Progress to Junior Polo League (in the polo arena)

• Advance to the "Potrillos League" junior matches on the grass field every Saturday at 9:30 AM

 

Lesson Overview:

All lessons include horse rental and polo equipment, including a mallet.  Helmets are available to borrow if needed. No prior riding or polo experience is required. Beginner lessons involve slower-paced riding and typically last between 45 minutes to 1 hour. As riders progress, lessons may include faster riding and shorter durations focused on skill-building.

We recommend wearing:

• Boots or shoes with a heel (no sneakers)

• Riding pants or jeans

• Optional: riding gloves

Lesson Structure:
For new riders and players, we often begin with practice on the ground, learning how to hold  a mallet and perform the basic swings. We talk over the basics for riding and steering a horse, then we get on horseback and practice! With time, riders learn to combine mallet skills and riding skills together, and soon begin hitting the ball and playing polo!

Ready to play a polo match?

A primary aim of our polo school program is to help players develop as competitors. Once polo school players have gained experience with lessons and instructional chukkers, they may trial the Saturday Coaching League Pro-Am Matches and Ladies' Tournaments. Non-members may trial the Coaching League Pro-Am up to two times before joining as a member. Members have access to weekly practices and the Saturday Coaching League Pro-Am.

Riders begin with an introductory lesson with our coaches to discover the game, get to know our facilities, and practice on our horses. If you choose to continue, subsequent lessons are offered in 10-packs. Contact us  to inquire about lesson availability.
